What in the world is Quiv?

Quiv is a website where Givers and Quivers connect to exchange knowledge while supporting their preferred causes. Read our About Us page for even more information.

What is Quiv’s mission?

Our mission is to form meaningful connections between people with great knowledge, experience and expertise and those seeking advice, while simultaneously helping the world around us by supporting meaningful causes through acts of charitable donations.

Am I a Giver? Or a Quiver?

We thought you’d never ask! A Giver is a person with great knowledge, experience and expertise who wants to donate their time by answering other people’s questions pertaining to the industry in which they work (or have worked) or a field with which they are very familiar. A Quiver, or a “question giver” (see what we did there?), is someone who is looking to pick the brain of or get advice from an expert to whom they wouldn’t otherwise have access, and is happy to make a donation to a meaningful cause in exchange. Which one are you? (You can be both!)

So how do I donate to causes?

If you’re a Giver, you donate to causes by giving your time to Quivers. Here’s how it works: When you sign up to be a Giver, you’ll be prompted to select a cause. This cause will be the recipient of donations made by Quivers who connect with you. You are free to change your preferred cause at any time.

What is considered a cause?

A cause is a nonprofit or charitable organization recognized by the local regulators as such (in the US it would be a 501(c)(3)-type organization as defined by the IRS). There are over one million such causes in Quiv’s database. Quiv may decide at its own discretion to remove causes at any time for any number of reasons.

How much do you charge?

Quiv takes a small 5 percent commission of the overall donation.

How much does the cause receive?

After various finance and transaction charges, the cause receives approximately 90 percent of the donation.

But wait, is it free to become a member?

Yes! Creating an account as a Quiver or Giver is completely free. You are not charged until you decide to make a donation.

Is my donation secure? Which payment methods can I use?

Yes, we use standard payment encryption technologies to guarantee your safety and security. We currently accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards, but soon we’ll be accepting Paypal payments, too, so stay tuned!

When will the cause receive my donation?

Causes receive donations at the end of each month.

Do I need to create an account to ask or answer a question?

Yes, to be part of the Quiv community you’ll need to create an account. However, we’ve made our registration process as quick and simple as possible — it takes less than 20 seconds! All you have to do is sign up using your Facebook or LinkedIn account (no long questionnaires or pages of personal information!), and you’re ready to start Quiving!

Why is it important to update my profile?

Whether you’re a Giver or Quiver, keeping your profile up to date ensures that those connecting with you fully understand your background. The more information you provide, the greater the potential for a meaningful connection.

What are the consultation tiers and how much do they cost?

Quiv offers six types of consultations:

  1. Short Quiv – a short one-sentence question with a short one-sentence answer
  2. Quiv – a written question with a written answer (no length limitations)
  3. Phone Call – a phone call lasting up to 15 minutes
  4. Video Chat – a video chat lasting up to 30 minutes
  5. Meet for Coffee – a 45-minute face-to-face meeting
  6. Let’s do Lunch – a one-hour lunch meeting
The consultations do not have any cost associated with them; rather, Givers hope that Quivers will make a donation to their selected cause in exchange. Givers set the recommended donation amounts for each type of consultation.
How do I cancel my Quiv account?

Was it something we said? We hate to see you go. If you need to cancel your Quiv account, please select “Delete Account” in the Account Settings Note that once your account has been deleted, your Quiv history cannot be recovered.

What is the difference between a Short Quiv and an Quiv?

A Short Quiv is a short one-sentence question that will be answered in one-sentence. An Quiv has no limitations on the response length.

Can other users see my questions and Givers’ responses?

Other users cannot see your questions and responses. Unless otherwise agreed to, by both the Giver and Quiver, it is kept private between the Giver and Quiver who interact with each other.

Who chooses the cause to which the donation is made?

Givers choose the cause that they would like to support through Quivers’ donations. Quivers can see which cause a Giver has selected before they choose to ask them a question.

What is a consultation?

A consultation refers to any interaction between a Quiver and a Giver, whether it be a video chat, in-person lunch meeting or Short Quiv.

Who processes the donation?

All donations are processed safely and securely by Make My Donation. The donation disbursement takes place at the end of each month.

Do I need a LinkedIn account to log in?

You must have a LinkedIn account to join Quiv as a Giver. Once you sign up using your LinkedIn account, you have the option to sync your Quiv profile with your LinkedIn profile to autofill information about your background and experience. Post registration, if you prefer, you can modify your Quiv profile manually. Note that we never post anything without your permission.

How can I be sure that the Giver is real?

Givers’ identities are verified via their LinkedIn account, phone number and other verification methods.

Am I guaranteed a response from the Giver?

Because they are busy people, we can’t guarantee that a Giver will respond to your request for a consultation. Luckily, however, our large database of Givers means that you can always reach out to another Giver in that industry or area!

Are donations refundable?

Once a donation is made, it cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

Where can I see all the Givers on Quiv?

As a Quiver who is looking to connect with Givers, you can use the search function to look up Givers by industry, name, company and more.

Can any user ask and receive questions?

While questions and answers may be exchanged freely by both parties during a consultation, only a Quiver can initiate a consultation. Please note, however, that Givers can also be Quivers and may request consultations with other Givers as well.

Who may be considered a Giver?

A Giver is any person who wants to raise money for a certain cause, and who feels that they have valid expertise or experience in a certain field and can offer advice and answers to people with questions pertaining to that field. A Giver might be a marketing manager at a large firm, a school vice principal, a television actor, a chef or any number of other things. In short, a Giver is anyone who can provide meaningful answers based on their own experience and personal journey.

When can I get started asking questions?

You can sign up as a Quiver or Giver in a matter of seconds. As a Quiver, once you create an account and put a method of payment on file, you can ask your first question. As a Quiver, once you create an account and select your preferred cause, you are eligible to answer your first question as soon as it arrives.

Is there a limit to the number of questions I can ask?

Not at all! Ask away!

As a Quiver, can I ask the Giver anything?

While you can ask a Giver anything, please make sure your question is appropriate and respectful and pertains to that Giver’s area of expertise. We want to help you connect with the right type of Giver for the advice that you’re seeking, so we encourage you to explore a Giver’s profile before requesting a consultation and formally asking a question. Do not ask questions that would require the Giver to breach their confidentiality obligations or make them uncomfortable in any way. And, of course, nothing illegal or immoral should be discussed. Quiv is a platform for doing good.

Can a Quiver become a Giver?

Sure! All you have to do is upgrade your profile in Settings.

How much do I have to donate to ask a question?

Donations are not connected to your specific questions or consultation requests. They simply serve as a way for the Giver to give back to the community and promote a cause they support. Once you have made the donation, you may connect with the Giver for your requested consultation.
Givers set the donation amounts for each type of consultation.

Is my donation tax deductible?

All donations go to causes that are nonprofits or charitable organizations recognized by the local regulators as such (in the US it would be a 501(c)(3)-type organization as defined by the IRS).
The donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law in accordance with the regulations stipulated by the relevant local regulator (in the US: the Internal Revenue Service). The Service will send you a receipt from MMD for your donation, which may be useful to you when completing your tax return; please consult with your tax advisor as to the deductibility on any tax deductible related items.
It is the Quiver’s responsibility to determine what, if any, taxes apply, and the extent to which any donations are tax-deductible. It is solely the Quiver’s responsibility toassess, collect, report or remit the correct tax, if any, to the appropriate tax authority.

Givers

As a Giver, can I answer any question?

While you can answer any question that a Quiver may ask you, we remind you to respect any confidentiality obligation you may have and to answer questions as ethically as possible. And, of course, nothing illegal or immoral should be discussed. Quiv is a platform for doing good.

Can I change my preferred cause?

Yes, you can choose a different cause at any time by going to Settings within your Account Profile.

When can I start receiving requests for consultations?

You can start receiving requests as soon as you create an account and select a cause.

Where do I select my cause and areas of expertise?

You will be prompted to select your preferred cause and areas of expertise when you sign up for an account. You can change these at any time by logging into your Account Profile and editing your information.

What causes can I choose from?

Quiv has an amazing database of over 1 million causes. You can choose from over one million US-based nonprofits that have all been verified by the IRS.

Can I change the donation levels for my consultations?

Yes, you can change the donation levels for your consultations at any time by logging into your Account Profile and going to Settings.

How much time do I have to respond to consultation requests?

In order to make the experience meaningful for Quivers, we recommend that you respond within three business days.

I’m getting too many consultation requests. Can I change this?

We know you’re juggling professional, personal and other commitments, so we never want you to feel pressured to answer an avalanche of questions. Go to Settings in your Account Profile to change the number of consultation requests you are willing receive. Have more free time one month? Simple, just raise your request limit again! Adjust your limit to your schedule as necessary.

I’m getting too few consultation requests. Can I do more?

If you aren’t receiving as many consultation requests as you’d like, there are a few things you can do. First, check the Settings in your Account Profile to make sure that you don’t have a limit set on the number of requests you can receive a month. Invite friends and colleagues to be Quivers by sharing on social media or sending an automatic email from your Settings. Promote your Quiv and your personal Giver profile to your network, and watch your requests come flooding in!

I’d like to raise more money for my cause. How can I do that?

You can raise more money for your chosen cause by donating more of your time to Quivers. The more time you donate to answering questions, the more donations you will raise for your cause.

How do I report offensive or abusive requests?

Creating a safe and positive environment is a top priority at Quiv. If you are confronted with an offensive or abusive request by a Quiver, please contact us immediately by clicking the “Report Abuse” button next to the consultation request.

Causes

How do I get my cause or organization involved?

Most likely your cause is already in the large database of over one million US-based nonprofits we use. You can browse the list of nonprofits while registering or editing your cause as a Giver. If your organization is not listed, please email us at charities@quiv.com.

My cause is already on Quiv. How do I get more donations?

If your cause is on Quiv, but you’re not receiving as many donations as you’d like, we encourage you to invite friends, colleagues, family and more to register as Quivers and Givers for your cause. Share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+, and send a personal email to those in your network. Promoting your participation in the Quiv community can help boost Givers’ awareness of your cause.
